As many of you know, Jack had a rough time last week. It started off with some coughing on Tuesday. We took him to the pediatrician and she diagnosed him with pneumonia. At the time, his breathing was okay, just a bit fast. Well, over the course of the night it got worse. I took him back on Wednesday when my gut told me something just wasn't right. After a mildly successful breathing treatment and a low blood oxygen reading, we were sent to Children's Medical Center. It took a while, but the emergency room finally got his wheezing under control after three breathing treatments, oral steroids, and some IV fluids. Just to be safe, Jack was admitted for the night, mainly so they could keep a close eye on him. His breathing was still okay the next day and we got to go home.
I need to thank my mother here for canceling her vacation and staying in the hospital with me and Jack that night. Thank you, mom, for holding Jack for a few hours so I could get some sleep.
Also, thank you for just being there. You took care of me so that I could take care of my son.
I would describe the experience in more detail and how I felt, but there really just aren't words. If you are a parent, you understand the fear of having a sick child. If you're not a parent, I'm sure you can imagine. I am just extremely grateful that my little boy is well again.
I would like to thank all our family and friends for calling and/or coming to visit. Your kindness, concern and well wishes really gave me a lot of strength. We feel very blessed to have so many people who care about and love us.
Jack is feeling much better now. It took a few days for him to catch up on all the sleep he missed. He's been practicing the word "up" with major emphasis on the "p". Also, his daddy has been teaching him how to rub his hands together and do an evil little laugh, like he's plotting some disastrous scheme. I'll have to get both on video soon.
